About Alien Syndrome (japan)
Alien Syndrome came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, a conversion of Sega's arcade game. It was part of that wave of sci-fi action games on the NES where you fought through hordes of alien creatures, a straightforward premise for its time.
You control a space marine moving through maze-like levels, rescuing human hostages while eliminating every alien on the screen. The main goal is to find all the hostages in a stage and reach the exit before a strict timer runs out. Key mechanics include screen by screen exploration, where each new area locks you in until you clear it of enemies, and collecting power-ups that upgrade your weapon from a basic shot to more powerful spreads. The pacing is relentless; aliens spawn continuously, and the levels are filled with environmental hazards that drain your health quickly. It feels like a tense, constant scramble against the clock and the swarming creatures.
