Alien 3 on Game Boy is one of those weird little isometric puzzlers that feels like it shouldn’t work but somehow does. You’re dropped into this claustrophobic maze of vents and corridors, trying to outsmart xenomorphs with nothing but motion trackers and flares. The perspective takes some getting used to—you’ll bump into walls a few times before it clicks—but once it does, there’s something oddly satisfying about luring aliens into traps or sneaking past them in the dark.
Don’t expect fast-paced action though. It’s more about holding your breath while a blip on the scanner creeps closer, then praying your last flare distracts it long enough to slip by. The sound design does a lot of heavy lifting here—that static-y pulse of the motion tracker still sticks with me. Just be ready for some trial and error; those aliens don’t mess around.
