About Alien 3
Alien 3 on the Game Boy came out in 1993, a portable version of the console and computer game published by LJN and developed by Probe Software. It arrived when licensed movie games were common, and this one tried to capture the movie's grim atmosphere on the small screen. You get a side scrolling action game that feels distinctly of its time, built for on the go play.
You control Ellen Ripley, moving through the industrial corridors and prison levels of Fiorina 161. Your main goal is to rescue the surviving colonists while systematically destroying the alien eggs before they can hatch. The game plays out screen by screen; you jump across platforms, climb ladders, and use a pulse rifle and flamethrower to fight off facehuggers and adult aliens. You also collect keycards to open sealed doors and activate terminals. The pacing is tense and the difficulty is high, demanding careful movement and ammo conservation. It feels like a desperate struggle for survival in tight, claustrophobic spaces.
