About Alien 3 (japan)
Alien 3 for the Game Boy came out in 1993, published by LJN and developed by Bits Studios. It was part of that wave of licensed games trying to capture a movie's feel on the small screen, a common sight in the early 90s portable library. You control Ellen Ripley, the sole survivor of a crash landing on a prison planet, and your goal is straightforward: rescue the scattered colonists before the alien creatures overwhelm the facility.
You guide Ripley through the industrial complex screen by screen, navigating platforms and ladders while avoiding or shooting the alien drones. The game mixes run and gun action with light exploration; you need to find keycards to unlock new areas and activate terminals to open security doors. The pacing is relentless, with aliens frequently spawning from vents, and the limited ammunition makes every shot count. It feels like a tense, claustrophobic scramble against an ever present threat.
