About Alfred Chicken
Alfred Chicken came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993, developed by Twilight and published by Mindscape. It was part of that wave of late NES releases, arriving when many players were already looking toward the 16-bit consoles, offering one more colorful, side scrolling adventure on the aging hardware.
You control Alfred, a determined chicken, navigating through a world of oversized garden tools and hostile wildlife. Your main goal is to rescue your kidnapped chick friends from the clutches of the evil Meka Chicken. You move screen by screen, pecking at enemies to defeat them and butting your head against specific blocks to reveal items or create new platforms. A key mechanic involves finding and using magic popcorn; eating it temporarily transforms you, allowing you to fly for short distances to reach otherwise inaccessible areas. The pacing is deliberate, with some levels requiring careful observation to figure out the correct block to hit next. It can be unforgiving, with precise jumps needed and enemies that respawn quickly. Playing it feels like a methodical puzzle box dressed in the feathers of a platformer.
