About Alfred Chicken (japan)
Alfred Chicken came out for the Game Boy in 1993, developed by Twilight and published by Mindscape. It was part of that wave of platformers that tried to do something a little different on the handheld, moving away from the straightforward run and jump formula that dominated the system's library at the time.
You control Alfred, a chicken on a mission to rescue his kidnapped girlfriend. The game is structured screen by screen; your goal is to peck all the flowers in a level to open the exit. You can jump on enemies or peck them from behind, and a key mechanic is finding and using special eggs. These eggs can be thrown to defeat certain foes or to activate switches that alter the stage layout. The pacing is deliberate, with some levels requiring careful observation to find all the flowers, and the difficulty can be unforgiving with precise platforming over instant death pits. Playing it feels like a methodical puzzle box disguised as a cartoon adventure.
