So, Akumajou Dracula Mokushiroku—yeah, that’s a mouthful—is basically Castlevania’s weird, experimental cousin on the N64. You’ve got this gothic, fog-drenched castle to explore in full 3D, which was kind of a big deal back then. The controls take some getting used to—swinging your whip in first-person feels janky at first, but once you adjust, there’s something oddly satisfying about smacking skeletons off ledges.
It’s not all combat, though. You’ll spend a lot of time backtracking through creepy halls, solving puzzles that range from "oh, that’s clever" to "where the heck was I supposed to find that key?" The atmosphere’s thick enough to cut with a knife, all eerie music and distant howls. Just don’t expect it to play like the classic side-scrollers—this one’s its own beast.
Honestly, it’s divisive, but if you’re into moody, clunky-but-ambitious N64 action, it’s worth a look. Just maybe watch a playthrough first.
