About Akumajou Dracula (japan)
Konami released Akumajou Dracula for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986. It was one of many action platformers from that period, but it carved out its own distinct space with its gothic setting and methodical combat.
You control Simon Belmont, a vampire hunter tasked with defeating Count Dracula. You move through the castle screen by screen, using your whip to attack a variety of monsters like zombies and bats. You can collect secondary weapons, such as throwing axes or holy water, which consume hearts for use. The pacing is deliberate; your attacks have a noticeable wind-up, and enemy placement often demands careful timing to pass.
