I first came across The Adventures of Rad Gravity on the NES back in 1990. It was published by Interplay Entertainment, a company known for a lot of computer RPGs, so seeing their name on a console action game was interesting. You control Rad Gravity, a space adventurer who crash-lands on a series of strange planets. Your main goal is to gather the pieces of your wrecked spaceship scattered across these worlds. The gameplay is built around screen by screen exploration, where you jump between platforms and solve environmental puzzles. You have a laser sword for close combat and a variety of other tools you find, like a grappling hook to swing across gaps. The pacing can be slow and deliberate, with a high difficulty due to tricky jumps and some obscure puzzles. Navigating the interconnected levels and managing your limited resources makes for a challenging, methodical experience.
