About Adventures Of Captain Comic, The (unl)
The Adventures of Captain Comic came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988, developed by Michael Denio. It was part of that early wave of NES games where developers were still figuring out what a console action-adventure could be, often translating ideas from the home computer scene. You don't hear about it as much as the big names, but it has its own quiet place from that era.
You control the titular Captain, running and jumping across single-screen areas. Your goal is to explore the planet Obitus and collect three pieces of a stolen treasure. The main things you do are platforming across gaps, finding keys to unlock doors, and gathering items like a shield or a wand that shoots fireballs. The pacing is deliberate; you move screen by screen, and the difficulty comes from precise jumps and enemies that respawn when you leave and re-enter an area. Playing it feels like a methodical, sometimes unforgiving, trek through an alien landscape.
