About Advanced Dungeons & Dragons - Pool Of Radiance (japan)

Kemco released Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Pool of Radiance for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1992. This was a time when bringing complex computer role playing games to a home console was a significant technical challenge. The game is an adaptation of the 1988 computer title from Strategic Simulations, Inc., translating its detailed Forgotten Realms adventure for a different audience and hardware.

You control a custom party of up to six adventurers, creating characters from familiar Dungeons & Dragons classes like fighters, clerics, and magic users. The main objective is to cleanse the city of Phlan and its surrounding areas from monstrous invaders. Gameplay is divided into two distinct modes: you explore the world in a first person view, moving screen by screen through wilderness and city streets, and then combat switches to a tactical, top down perspective on a grid. You issue commands to each party member, positioning them to attack with swords or bows, cast spells, or use special abilities. The game is methodical and difficult, requiring careful management of your party's health and resources. Progress feels earned through strategic planning and surviving frequent, dangerous encounters.
