About Advanced Dungeons & Dragons - Dragon Strike
Dragon Strike came out for the NES in 1990, developed by Westwood Associates. It was part of that wave of games trying to bring tabletop style adventures to the console, a time when developers were experimenting with how to fit complex rules onto a simple controller.
You control a dragon, choosing between Bronze, Silver, and Gold, flying over a landscape viewed from above. Your main goal is to complete specific missions on each map, which usually involve destroying enemy structures or units. The core mechanics are built around screen by screen exploration, using your dragon's breath weapon to attack ground targets, and managing your limited health and magic. The pacing can feel slow, and it is easy to get stuck if you do not realize you must fly to the very edge of the screen to progress after finishing an objective. Playing it feels like navigating a large, sometimes confusing board game where your success hinges on figuring out the map's hidden logic.
