About Action 52 (unl)
Action 52 came out in 1991 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, a cartridge packed with 52 different games from a company called Active Enterprises. It arrived late in the NES lifecycle, a time when players were used to polished titles, but this collection stood out for entirely different reasons.
You control a variety of characters across the games, from a spaceship in a shooter to a man in a platformer, with the main objective simply being to survive each brief, broken experience. Signature mechanics include screen-by-screen enemy dodging, simple projectile attacks, and navigating levels that often lack clear exits. The pacing is frantic and uneven, while the difficulty is often artificially high due to glitches and poor controls. Playing it feels like wrestling with a machine that is actively fighting back against your inputs.
