Abarenbou Tengu is the Japanese version of Zombie Nation, and honestly, it’s even weirder than the already-bonkers US release. Instead of controlling a floating samurai zombie head, you’re… a red-faced tengu demon with a giant nose? Yeah, it’s that kind of game.
The gameplay’s straightforward—fly around, shoot stuff—but the difficulty’s cranked up since you don’t start with rapid fire. The backgrounds are a fever dream of Japanese folklore and random nonsense (one stage is just a giant baby’s face), and the music’s weirdly catchy in that old-school NES way. If you thought Zombie Nation was bizarre, wait until you see this version.
It’s short, chaotic, and makes zero sense—but that’s kind of the charm.
