Abadox is one of those NES games that sticks with you—mostly because it’s absolutely brutal. You’re flying your ship straight into the belly of some cosmic horror, dodging teeth, eyeballs, and what looks like half-digested spaceships. The whole thing feels like a bad acid trip in the best way possible.
At first, you think it’s just another shoot ‘em up, but then the walls start pulsing, the background shifts like you’re inside a living thing (because you are), and suddenly you’re getting swarmed by what I can only describe as space antibodies. The power-ups help, but good luck staying alive long enough to use them. It’s gross, weird, and weirdly satisfying when you finally blast through a particularly nasty stretch.
Fair warning: this game doesn’t pull punches. You’ll die. A lot. But if you like your shooters with a side of body horror, it’s hard to top Abadox.
