About Abadox
Abadox came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989, published by Natsume. It was part of that wave of late 80s shooters that tried to push the hardware with detailed, grotesque visuals. You don't play as a ship; you're a soldier named Parasite, flying directly into the guts of a giant, alien life form.
You control Parasite as he navigates through the creature's innards, which are packed with organic enemies and hazardous structures. Your main goal is to fight your way to the core and destroy it. You have a standard shot that can be powered up by collecting orbs dropped by specific enemies; these upgrades change your weapon's spread and strength. The game alternates between horizontal and vertical scrolling sections, forcing you to adapt your movement. It's notoriously difficult, with dense enemy patterns and tricky environmental navigation. The experience is tense and claustrophobic, as you are constantly weaving through a living, hostile anatomy.
