About 8 Eyes
8 Eyes came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988, published by Taxan. It was part of that wave of NES games that tried to blend different genres, in this case mixing action and exploration in a way that felt ambitious for the time.
You control Orin, a knight navigating a world split into separate castle stages. Your main goal is to collect eight magical gems, one from each castle, to complete your quest. A key feature is your falcon companion, Cutrus; you can switch control between Orin and the bird to solve puzzles or attack enemies from different angles. The game progresses screen by screen, with combat relying on your sword and a limited supply of special items. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be steep, demanding careful exploration and resource management. Playing it feels like a methodical, sometimes punishing test of your patience and skill.
