40 Winks on the N64 is one of those weird, dreamy platformers that feels like playing through a kid’s overactive imagination. You start off as these two siblings trying to reclaim stolen dreams from a bunch of mischievous creatures, and before long, you’re shapeshifting into different forms—like a tank or a kangaroo—to solve puzzles and fight off enemies. The levels are colorful and surreal, like bouncing through clouds or sneaking around a toy-filled bedroom.
It’s got that classic late-’90s platformer jank—some of the controls take getting used to, and the camera fights you a little—but there’s something oddly charming about it. The transformations keep things interesting, and the soundtrack’s got this playful, almost lullaby-like vibe. If you’re into obscure N64 games with personality, this one’s a fun little time capsule.
