Zero Tolerance on the Genesis was way ahead of its time—a full-on FPS on a console that really shouldn’t have been able to handle it. You start off in this creepy spaceship with nothing but a pistol, and within minutes you’re getting swarmed by these weird alien things. The controls take some getting used to (it’s no Doom), but once it clicks, blasting through corridors with the shotgun feels surprisingly good.
The graphics are blocky as hell, but the atmosphere nails that claustrophobic sci-fi horror vibe. Some rooms are pitch black except for your flashlight, and hearing enemies shuffle around in the dark never stops being tense. Just don’t expect a smooth ride—the framerate chugs when things get hectic, but that’s part of the charm now.
If you’re into retro shooters, it’s wild to see what they pulled off here. Just maybe keep the nostalgia goggles handy.
