If you grew up watching Yu Yu Hakusho, this Sega Genesis game is basically a love letter to the anime—though fair warning, it’s Japan-only, so you’ll need to track down a fan translation. You pick between Yusuke, Kuwabara, Hiei, or Kurama (team Urameshi forever) and brawl through side-scrolling stages packed with demons and familiar faces from the show.
The sprites are chunky in that classic 16-bit way, and the special moves actually feel like they’ve got weight—Hiei’s Dragon of the Darkness Flame looks ridiculous in the best possible way. Some of the platforming’s a little janky, but nailing a perfect Spirit Gun blast never gets old. Just don’t expect a deep story—it’s mostly an excuse to punch things with anime flair.
Honestly, half the fun is spotting all the little references crammed in, like that one boss who totally ripped off Toguro’s vibe. It’s rough around the edges, but if you’re into retro anime games, this one’s a solid time capsule.
