Yu-Gi-Oh! GX - Spirit Caller is one of those DS games that actually makes dueling feel like the anime—minus the ridiculous hair. You start off as a newbie at Duel Academy, and right away, you’re thrown into matches where one wrong card can wreck your whole strategy. The AI isn’t a pushover either—some of these NPCs will absolutely demolish you if you’re not careful.
What I love is how much freedom you get with deck-building. You can scavenge for cards, trade with classmates, or just brute-force your way through with whatever nonsense combo you slap together. (I may or may not have won a few duels with a janky dragon deck that had no business working.) The story’s cheesy in that classic Yu-Gi-Oh way, but it’s fun seeing familiar faces from GX pop up.
If you’re into card games and still have a DS lying around, this one’s a solid time-waster. Just don’t blame me when you lose three times in a row to Chazz and his stupid Ojamas.
