Yang Jia Jiang – Yang Warrior Family Game

Ever played one of those old-school side-scrolling beat 'em ups where you just feel every punch? "Yang Jia Jiang" on the Genesis is exactly that—except you're not some random street brawler. You're part of the legendary Yang family, kicking butt with traditional Chinese martial arts. The sprites are chunky in that perfect 16-bit way, and the backgrounds? Classic Sega—pagodas, cherry blossoms, the works.
At first, I thought it was just another Final Fight clone, but the combat’s got weight to it. Landing a combo feels satisfying, especially when you pull off a special move and send three guys flying. The music’s all dramatic drums and flutes, which somehow makes beating up bandits feel even more heroic. And yeah, it’s tough—enemies gang up on you fast, so you’ll need to actually time your blocks instead of button-mashing.
If you’re into retro brawlers or just want to see how the Genesis handled wuxia before Streets of Rage took over, this one’s a solid deep cut. Just don’t expect mercy from the boss fights.
