XDR – X-Dazedly-Ray is one of those weird, flashy Genesis games that feels like it was designed after someone binge-watched too much '80s sci-fi. You start off blasting through neon-drenched corridors, dodging these geometric enemies that look like they escaped from a screensaver. The controls are tight, but man, some of those bullet patterns get ridiculous by stage 3.
The music’s this synth-heavy soundtrack that somehow makes even dying repeatedly feel cool. I remember getting stuck on the fourth boss for ages—turns out hiding in the bottom-left corner actually works, but good luck figuring that out without a few rage quits first. It’s got that classic "Nintendo Hard" vibe where you’ll memorize enemy spawns just to survive.
If you’re into retro shooters with a trippy aesthetic, this one’s worth dusting off the Genesis for. Just don’t expect mercy from the later levels.
