X-Men on the Genesis is one of those side-scrolling beat 'em ups that feels like a Saturday morning cartoon—if that cartoon had way more punching. You pick from Cyclops, Wolverine, Gambit, or Nightcrawler (I always went with Wolverine, obviously) and plow through waves of Sentinels and Brotherhood goons. The sprites are chunky in that classic 16-bit way, and the Danger Room levels actually mess with you—suddenly the floor’s electrified or the walls start closing in. Magneto’s a pain to fight, but landing that final hit? So satisfying. Just watch out for the weird level where you have to reset the console to progress—yeah, it’s as bizarre as it sounds.
