About Wrestleball (japan)
Wrestleball was a Japan only release for the Sega Genesis, also known as the Mega Drive, and it came out in 1990 from developer Sega. It was one of those oddball sports hybrids that showed up on the system, trying something different during a time when developers were experimenting with genre combinations.
You control a wrestler on a single screen arena, and the goal is to throw a ball into your opponent's goal while they try to do the same to you. The signature mechanics are the wrestling moves; you can grab and throw your opponent to stun them, clearing a path to the goal. You also have to manage the ball itself, which can be passed or carried, adding a layer of strategy to the frantic scuffles. The pacing is fast and the difficulty can be sharp, as the computer opponents are quick to capitalize on any mistake. It feels like a chaotic, physical scramble where a single well timed throw can completely turn the match around.
