About Worms (europe)

I first played Worms on the Sega Genesis in 1995, a game developed by Team17. It arrived during a time when the console was full of action platformers and fighting games, so its turn-based, strategic style stood out immediately. You didn't control a single hero, but an entire team of cartoonish worms.

You command a squad of worms, taking turns with up to three other teams to eliminate the opposition. The main goal is to be the last team standing. Your turn gives you a short time limit to move one of your worms and fire a weapon. The signature mechanics are the destructible, randomly generated landscapes and the huge arsenal of silly weapons. You might use a bazooka for a straightforward shot, or a banana bomb that scatters smaller explosions. The Holy Hand Grenade requires a precise count before it detonates. The pacing is methodical, broken by moments of chaotic fun when a shot collapses the ground under an enemy. It feels like a tense, unpredictable board game where a single lucky shot can turn the entire match around.
