World of Illusion is one of those Genesis gems that still holds up—especially if you’ve got a buddy to play with. You pick between Mickey or Donald (Mickey’s floaty jumps feel better, but Donald’s got this weird charm), and suddenly you’re whisked into this storybook world where magic carpets fray at the edges and playing cards come to life.
The first level throws you into a forest where mushrooms bounce you around, and the music’s got that classic Disney whimsy. But don’t let the cute visuals fool you—some of those platforming bits get sneaky, especially when the game starts playing with perspective. One minute you’re dodging giant books, the next you’re shrinking down to mouse-size. Co-op’s where it really shines, though—watching Donald fumble through a puzzle while you’re both laughing is half the fun.
It’s short, yeah, but there’s something about the way it blends Disney charm with Sega’s flair for creative level design that just sticks with you. Still holds up if you’re into that early ‘90s platformer vibe.
