You pick a fighter from a cast of historical and fictional characters, then face off against opponents in one-on-one battles across various stages. The main goal is to deplete your rival's life bar using a combination of standard attacks and special moves. A couple of its notable mechanics are the Death Match mode, where stages have hazards like electric fences you must avoid, and the ability to choose between two play styles for each character, Speed or Power, which alters their move properties. The pacing feels a bit slower and more deliberate than some of its contemporaries from that year, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, especially against the computer. Landing a well-timed super move to finish a close round provides a solid, satisfying crunch.
