World Cup USA 94 on the Genesis was one of those soccer games that actually felt fast and fluid for its time. The animations were surprisingly smooth—players would slide tackle, stumble, and even argue with the ref. Not bad for 16-bit.
You pick your team (obviously I went with Brazil first), and the matches play out with this weirdly satisfying arcade feel. The commentary is hilariously repetitive, but the crowd noise and chants give it that chaotic tournament atmosphere. Penalty shootouts were brutal—I swear the goalie AI cheats sometimes.
It’s not FIFA-level depth, but for a mid-90s soccer fix, it holds up better than you’d expect. Just don’t expect tactical masterclasses here.
