I first played Wolfchild on the Sega Genesis back in 1992. It was developed by Core Design, the same studio that would later become famous for Tomb Raider. This was during a time when the Genesis was full of side-scrolling action games, and Wolfchild fit right into that mix with its science fiction setting.

You control a man named Saul who can transform into a powerful wolf-like creature. Your main goal is to rescue your kidnapped colleague by fighting through a series of alien-infested levels. The core gameplay involves running, jumping across platforms, and shooting enemies with your arm cannon. A key mechanic is the ability to switch between your human and wolf forms; the wolf is stronger and can use a devastating claw attack, but you need to manage a transformation meter. The levels are large and require some exploration to find the exit, often with hidden power-ups that enhance your weapons. The pacing is fast and the difficulty can be punishing, demanding quick reflexes to deal with the constant enemy attacks. Playing it feels like a constant, tense scramble for survival.
