Winter Olympic Games on the Sega Genesis is one of those early '90s sports titles that somehow makes pixelated bobsledding feel legitimately intense. You pick your event—ski jumping, speed skating, that weird downhill slalom thing—and suddenly you're mashing buttons like your life depends on it. The controls are simple (mostly just A and B with some directional finesse), but nailing the timing for a perfect figure skating routine or not wiping out on the ice track takes practice.
What I love is how janky and charming it all feels. The athletes look like little chunky sprites with way too much determination, and the sound effects are pure Genesis cheese—that crunchy "whoosh" during ski jumps never gets old. Multiplayer's where it really shines though—nothing like barely edging out a friend in the final stretch of a speed skate while they yell at you for "cheating."
It's not the deepest sports sim, but for a quick hit of frosty nostalgia, it still holds up. Just don't expect realistic physics when your skier faceplants into a snowbank for the tenth time.
