Winter Challenge came out for the Sega Genesis, known as the Mega Drive in Europe, in 1992. It was published by Ballistic. This was during a time when the Genesis library was expanding with a wide variety of sports and competition titles, offering alternatives to the more mainstream offerings.

You control an athlete competing in a winter decathlon across ten different events. The main objective is to achieve the highest total score by performing well in each discipline. Signature mechanics include the quick, rhythmic button presses required for the speed skating and cross country skiing events, and the precise timing needed for the ski jump, where you must hold a crouch for optimal lift before landing. The game moves at a brisk pace, and some events are quite challenging to master, demanding consistent practice to score well. It feels like a demanding test of your timing and endurance more than pure speed.
