Winter Challenge is one of those early '90s sports games that somehow makes freezing your butt off in virtual snow feel nostalgic. You pick from classic winter events—downhill skiing, bobsled, even ski jumping—and the controls are about as forgiving as actual ice. Mess up a turn in the slalom, and you’re eating pixels.
The graphics are pure Sega Genesis: blocky athletes, chunky snow effects, and that weirdly satisfying crunch sound when you nail a landing. The bobsled event feels like you’re steering a shopping cart down a mountain, which is either terrifying or hilarious depending on how many times you’ve wiped out already.
It’s not the deepest sports sim, but there’s something charming about how straightforward it is. You’ll either love it for the retro vibe or quit after the third faceplant. Either way, your thumbs will remember the experience.
