Wimbledon Championship Tennis on the Sega Genesis is one of those old-school sports games that somehow nails the feel of actual tennis without overcomplicating things. You pick your player—some are faster, others hit harder—and then you’re straight onto those bright green courts, serving under a weirdly pixelated blue sky. The controls are simple: tap the button for a basic shot, hold it for power, and timing matters way more than you’d expect.
At first, I kept whiffing volleys because I swung too early, but once you get the rhythm down, the rallies actually feel tense. The AI isn’t brutal, but it’s sneaky—they’ll drop shots just over the net if you camp at the baseline. And yeah, it’s dated, but there’s something satisfying about the way the ball thwacks when you nail a perfect cross-court winner. If you’ve got a soft spot for 16-bit sports games, this one holds up better than most.
