About Wimbledon Championship Tennis (europe)
Wimbledon Championship Tennis came out for the Sega Genesis in 1993, developed by SIMS and published by Sega. It was one of the more serious attempts at a tennis simulation on the platform, arriving at a time when sports games were rapidly improving their mechanics and presentation.
You control a tennis player from a behind-the-back perspective, working your way through the Wimbledon tournament. The main objective is to win each match by outmaneuvering your opponent and claiming sets. Signature mechanics include a precise power gauge for your serves and the ability to apply topspin or slice to your groundstrokes, which affects the ball's trajectory. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the computer opponents can be quite challenging, especially on higher difficulty settings. It feels satisfying to nail a well-placed passing shot after setting it up with a few deep rallies.
