About Wimbledon Championship Tennis (beta)
Wimbledon Championship Tennis was a Sega Genesis release from 1993, developed by SIMS and published by Sega. It arrived during a period when sports games were rapidly evolving on 16-bit consoles, offering a straightforward take on the sport without the licensing of more famous rivals.
You control a tennis player from an elevated side view, moving your character to intercept the ball and execute different shots. The main objective is to win matches by outmaneuvering your opponent, progressing through the tournament brackets. Key mechanics include charging up your shot power by holding the button and using a lob to push your opponent back from the net. The pacing is deliberate, demanding careful positioning rather than frantic button mashing, and the computer can be stubbornly consistent from the baseline. It feels like a thoughtful, slightly methodical contest where each point must be earned.
