About Wild Snake (proto)
Wild Snake (Proto) is an unreleased Sega Genesis game, a cartridge that never made it to store shelves. It exists only as a prototype, a glimpse into what might have been for the 16-bit system. Without a known developer or publisher officially attached, it remains a curious piece of the platform's unfinished history, a game from an era when developers were constantly testing the hardware's limits.
You control a snake navigating a series of enclosed, screen-by-screen areas. The main objective is straightforward: eat the fruit that appears in each stage to progress. Your snake grows longer with every piece of fruit consumed, creating the core challenge of avoiding collisions with your own expanding tail. The pacing is methodical, demanding careful planning as the available space shrinks. Movement is turn-based; the snake changes direction on a grid with each button press, which gives you a moment to think but leaves little room for error in tighter spots. It feels like a deliberate, sometimes tense puzzle where a single mistake unravels your progress.
