Remember that old-school detective vibe where you'd chase Carmen Sandiego across the globe, flipping through your little in-game almanac like some kind of junior Interpol agent? That’s exactly what this Sega Genesis version nails. You start off at ACME headquarters, get handed a case file, and suddenly you're booking flights to Tokyo or Nairobi because some goon stole the Crown Jewels—or maybe it was the Eiffel Tower? (Her crew wasn’t picky.)
The fun’s in the scramble—checking time zones, matching suspect descriptions, and realizing halfway through that you totally misread the clue about the suspect’s hat. And yeah, you’ll bomb a few cases at first. Turns out accusing a guy in Buenos Aires when the trail actually led to Oslo is a surefire way to get chewed out by the chief. But when you finally corner one of Carmen’s lackeys after piecing together those cryptic hints? Feels like cracking the Da Vinci Code with a passport.
Just don’t expect to catch Carmen herself without a fight. She’s always one step ahead, and that’s what makes this game weirdly addictive decades later.
