Warrior of Rome II is one of those Genesis games that feels like a weird mix of strategy and hack-and-slash—you're leading whole armies, but you're also jumping into the fray yourself. The pixel art has that classic early '90s charm, with little Roman soldiers clashing in these surprisingly detailed (for the time) battle scenes.
At first, I thought it was just another beat-em-up, but there's actually some real strategy here—you've got to manage troops, pick the right formations, and time your charges. The controls take a second to get used to, especially when switching between commanding and fighting, but once it clicks, it’s satisfying to watch your legion roll over enemies.
It’s not the deepest strategy game out there, but for a Genesis title, it nails that "epic battle" feel. If you’re into old-school Roman warfare with a side of button-mashing, this one’s a solid pick.
