Warlock on the Genesis is one of those weird little action-adventure games that feels like it should've been bigger. You play as this sorcerer dude hopping between medieval castles, ancient Egypt, and even the freakin' future, blasting monsters with magic while hunting down runestones. The whole time travel gimmick gives it some variety—one minute you're dodging knights, next you're getting chased by robots.
Combat's simple but satisfying once you figure out the timing for your spells. I kept getting wrecked by the first boss until I realized you can just spam fireballs at his feet. The pixel art's actually pretty nice for a Genesis game, especially some of the later levels with all the weird time-warping effects.
It's short if you know what you're doing, but good luck finding all those runestones without getting lost at least twice.
