Warlock, released for the Sega Genesis and Mega Drive, was developed by Realtime Associates and published by Accolade. It came out during a period when action-adventure games were experimenting with larger worlds and more complex objectives, fitting right in with that exploratory spirit.

You control a young wizard's apprentice on a quest to gather runestones before a powerful warlock can claim them. The game unfolds screen by screen as you explore towns, castles, and dungeons across different time periods. Your main tools are a sword for close combat and a limited supply of magic spells for ranged attacks and solving puzzles. Navigating the world involves careful resource management, since your magic depletes with each cast and health does not regenerate easily. The pacing is deliberate, often requiring you to backtrack and remember locations, while the difficulty can be unforgiving if you are caught without a plan. It feels like a constant race against an unseen clock, making every discovery and narrow escape genuinely consequential.
