Wardner No Mori Special is one of those weird, kinda janky Genesis gems that somehow sticks with you. It's a side-scrolling action platformer where you play as this little dude tossing fireballs at bizarre enemies—think mushrooms with faces, floating eyeballs, and other random forest creatures. The controls take a second to get used to (your jumps feel a little floaty), but once it clicks, there's something oddly satisfying about bouncing around and torching everything in sight.
The Japanese version has some extra tweaks compared to the overseas release, like different enemy placements and slightly smoother difficulty. The music’s got that classic early '90s synth vibe too—haunting in a way that fits the creepy-cute aesthetic. If you're into obscure retro platformers with personality, this one’s worth a look. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand.
