Wani Wani World is one of those weird, charming Genesis games that feels like it got lost in time. You play as this little crocodile dude (or a kangaroo, if you pick the other character) hopping through these bright, surreal levels full of floating platforms and enemies that look like rejected toy designs. The controls take a second to get used to—your jumps feel a little floaty at first, but once it clicks, you’ll be bouncing off springs and dodging weirdo enemies like a pro.

The music’s got that classic early ‘90s Sega vibe—peppy synth tracks that somehow make collecting fruit feel like an event. And yeah, there’s a lot of fruit. Some levels throw these weird gimmicks at you, like suddenly turning into a side-scrolling shooter for no reason, which is either hilarious or annoying depending on how much patience you’ve got left by World 3. It’s janky in that way only forgotten platformers can be, but there’s something oddly satisfying about mastering its weird little rhythms. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand.
