About Virtual Bart (world)
Virtual Bart came out for the Sega Genesis in 1994, published by Acclaim Entertainment. It was part of that wave of licensed games based on The Simpsons, trying to capture the show's humor on 16-bit hardware. You take control of Bart Simpson, who gets trapped inside a virtual reality machine, and the game becomes a series of chaotic mini-games and side-scrolling levels.
You guide Bart through different stages, each with its own objective. One moment you're skateboarding down a school hallway, trying to avoid obstacles; the next, you're a baby crawling through a supermarket, dodging shoppers and falling products. The main goal is simply to survive each scenario and reach the end. Signature mechanics include screen-by-screen platforming where you jump on enemies and collect items, alongside specific context-sensitive actions like throwing tomatoes or riding a raft. The pacing is frantic, and the difficulty can feel unpredictable, with some stages requiring quick reflexes and others feeling more like luck. Playing it feels like a messy, sometimes frustrating trip through a bunch of disconnected cartoon gags.
