Virtua Racing was mind-blowing when it hit arcades in '92—one of the first real 3D racers where the tracks actually felt like they had depth instead of just being flat sprites. The Genesis port obviously couldn’t match the arcade cabinet’s smoothness, but it was still impressive for the time. You’ve got three cars to pick from (I always went with the F1-style machine), and the way the tracks bank and curve makes you actually think about your turns instead of just holding down the gas.
The graphics are blocky by today’s standards, but back then, seeing those polygonal cars spin out when you clipped a barrier felt like the future. It’s got that classic Sega arcade vibe—easy to pick up, but the later courses will punish you if you don’t nail the braking points. Still holds up if you’re into retro racers with a bit of edge.
