About Verytex (japan)
Verytex came out in 1991 for the Sega Genesis, developed and published by Hot B Co., Ltd. It was one of those many shooters from that period, a Japan exclusive that never made it to other regions. The game fits right in with the platform's library of straightforward, challenging action titles from the early 90s.
You pilot a lone starfighter through horizontally scrolling stages filled with enemy ships and environmental hazards. Your main goal is simply to survive each level, destroying everything in your path until you reach the boss. The ship has a standard shot, but you also collect power ups that change your weapon, like a spread shot or laser. A signature mechanic is the option to rotate your ship 180 degrees to fire backwards, which is essential for dealing with enemies that approach from behind. The game is fast and demanding, with enemy patterns that require quick reflexes to memorize. Playing Verytex feels like a constant, tense battle for positioning and survival.
