Vapor Trail is one of those Genesis shooters that feels like someone cranked the speed dial to 11. You're immediately thrown into chaotic dogfights where enemy planes swarm in from all angles, and your jet handles like it's on ice skates—in a good way. The first stage alone has you weaving through canyon walls while dodging missiles that seem to home in just a little too well.
What I love is how your special weapons actually matter here. The spread shot clears crowds, but the laser? That thing melts bosses if you can keep it locked on. Just don't expect any mercy—this game loves throwing bullet-hell patterns at you when you least expect it. The music's got that classic Genesis growl too, all crunchy bass lines that somehow make crashing into a mountain feel less frustrating.
It's not the deepest shooter out there, but for pure arcade-style chaos, it holds up way better than it has any right to. Just try not to punch your couch when you lose your last life to some cheap off-screen enemy.
