Uncharted Waters: New Horizons is one of those Sega Genesis games that just sticks with you. You pick one of six captains—each with their own backstory and goals—and suddenly you're bartering for spices in Lisbon, dodging pirates off the coast of Africa, or stumbling onto some uncharted island that wasn't on your crummy in-game map.
The coolest part? It never holds your hand. You'll get wrecked by storms if you push too far without upgrading your ship, and those early trade routes (buy low in Europe, sell high in the New World) feel like cracking some secret code. Naval battles are simple but tense—angling your broadside just right while avoiding enemy fire never gets old.
It's janky by today's standards, sure, but there's nothing else quite like plotting your own course across 16th-century oceans, watching your little sprite ship crawl across the map. Just don't expect to finish in one sitting—this one's a slow burn.
