About Ultraman (japan)
Ultraman for the Sega Genesis, released in 1993 by Bandai, was one of the many licensed games that tried to capture the spirit of a popular show on the 16-bit console. It arrived during a period when developers were still figuring out how to translate action-heavy properties into satisfying side-scrolling experiences.
You control Ultraman through a series of side-scrolling and overhead-view stages, moving screen by screen to battle familiar monsters from the series. Your main objective is to defeat these monsters and the alien forces commanding them, primarily using your signature Specium Ray, which you charge up before firing. The game also incorporates a life-size mechanic; you start each stage at human scale, fighting smaller enemies, and transform into the giant Ultraman for the climactic boss battles. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, demanding precise timing for your attacks and dodges. It feels like a straightforward test of your ability to manage your energy and survive enemy patterns.
