Triple Play – Gold Edition is one of those Sega Genesis baseball games that somehow nails the arcade feel while still keeping things just realistic enough. The players have that classic 90s sports game look—blocky but full of personality—and the controls are simple enough that you can pull off a diving catch or a home run without memorizing a bunch of combos.

First thing you’ll notice? The pitching mechanic. You actually aim where the ball’s going, which makes striking out the batter way more satisfying than just mashing buttons. And when you’re up to bat, timing matters—swing too early or late, and you’ll either whiff or pop it straight to the outfield. There’s something weirdly addictive about the crack of the bat when you nail a perfect hit.

It’s not the deepest baseball sim out there, but that’s kind of the point. You pick a team, jump into a game, and within minutes you’re either celebrating a walk-off homer or groaning at an error that costs you the inning. If you’ve got a buddy around, the two-player mode turns into pure chaos in the best way possible. Definitely a solid pick if you miss when sports games were more about fun than realism.
