Transformers: War for Cybertron - Autobots on DS is basically a pocket-sized version of the console game, but don’t let that fool you—it’s got some solid robot action. You start off as Bumblebee (of course) blasting through Decepticon drones in these tight, maze-like levels that actually make the DS hardware work surprisingly well. The controls take a second to get used to—hold L to strafe, which feels weird at first but becomes second nature after a few firefights.

The camera’s a little janky in close quarters, but the transforming mechanic is smooth—tap a button and you’re instantly rolling out as a car to dodge attacks or flank enemies. Some missions throw in light puzzle stuff, like activating bridges or hunting for keys, but mostly it’s just you, your blaster, and a whole lot of scrap metal to turn into scrap metal. The pixelated Cybertron landscapes actually look pretty cool for a DS game, especially when you’re dodging laser fire in some crumbling industrial zone.

It’s not perfect, but if you’re craving some handheld bot-on-bot chaos, this’ll scratch that itch. Just don’t expect the full console experience.
